Journal #13: My first source

To be honest, the first feeling that I have got from the class of finding resources for research paper was stress. Although I have had some experiences of making references from my minor thesis, it was still a stressful work because I made references manually before. However, the usefulness of these techniques persuades me to learn using it because I understand “the more you learn now, the less you’ll have to worry later!” (Cochran, S. (2009).)

With Sean’s help, I ultimately found out a useful source for my research on Vietnamese language education at universities in the United States.

Tran, A. (2008). Vietnamese language education in the United States. Retrieved on March 27, 2009 from http://search.ebscohost.com.lib-proxy.fullerton.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=35401008&site=ehost-live&scope=site

Anh Tran is from Wichita State University. She stated that it was hard to cite statistics of Vietnamese language schools and learners who are often second or third generation in the United States. These schools are usually organized in the forms of classes at churches or Buddhist temples or Vietnamese communities. Her journal gave me a background on my topic.

I am also very interested in sources that the author used in her article. However, one thing that I am concerned is when I try to connect websites that she used before; I could not access many of them. I do not know if there is any other way to have that access. I recognize there have been so many other things of using online sources that I have to learn.

  1. I know many Vietnamese live in California, especially Garden Grove. Some people who are not the first generation are bilingual; however, they seem not to speak fluently and write correctly their motherlanguage. I hope your research will help many Vietnanmese students to have more opportunities to learn Vietnamese in the future.

  2. I agree with you! Finding resources for a research paper is really stressful. However, a lot of people in this university such as librarians and Sean help us. Therefore, we can write a good research paper!!
