Journal #12: Advice

I myself believe that advice can change lives! To me, the advice of choosing career from my father when I graduated from universities has been the most valuable one that I were ever given. I think he himself didn't remember that he gave me that guidance and I didn't intend to seek an advice for my career from him at that time. It was just a talk, a discussion between my dad and me. He said women have two jobs that help them to have many chances to take care of their families. Those are teachers and doctors. His thoughts could be wrong because there have been problems that only those who are doing the job could understand. Yet, I really love my students who inspire my teaching career until now.

With this job, I also have many opportunities to give advices, not only for studying of my students but also for life, even I do not have much experience of life =)) . Nevertheless, some of them followed my advice and came back to thank me. One of my friends usually teases me about playing the role of Mr. Pigeon, who is like Dear Abby of newspaper advice columns in America. In fact, I do not want to give advice because I think I do not have more experience than others. So, I sometimes really need an advice or a word of encouragement.

Do you have any advice on what I should do this weekend?

Journal #11: Research topic

Truthfully, I expected to find out an applicable result from any research. Therefore, I intended to take this opportunity to study whether ALP students are sufficiently proficient in language to take an academic degree course in the USA. However, it seems that a practical research is not appreciated in this kind of research because it is hard and it will take me much time to collect data of different results to assess a program, such as students' backgrounds, grades, and proportion of successful enrollment into an academic course. Thus, after I searched on Wikipedia about my major - education - this morning, I decided to change my mind to choose my second major about business. Anyway, I have had an idea in my mind about what I should do for this final paper. And I hope that Sean will accept my research topic! :)

No one denies that there have been more and more companies or corporations which have crossed over their nations' frontiers to do business in other countries. That is the process of globalization. In this research, I would like to study about effects that economic globalization has brought to
the world. I also try to link to the WTO - World Trade Organization, the symbol of globalization. I hope I can learn more about this aspect from the research.

Have a nice weekend!
